Choosing the right product

It is quite a comprehensive job to get an overview of the many different products offered on the market today. Reinforced plastic sheeting, debris netting and woven HDPE sheeting are just a few of the products available.

The following conditions have to be evaluated carefully before choosing a product: 

• Duration of the project ex. long-term or short-term project
• Building season ex. winter or summer period
• Type of building activity ex. demolition or light facade work
• Place of building site ex. urban area or coast line

For each project where scaffold sheeting is used, calculations have to be made in order to determine the wind speed and direction for that specific building period. On a site surrounded by high buildings, the influence of the wind will not be as critical a factor as it will be on a site on the coast line where there are no other buildings to reduce the wind speed. An “unprotected” building site will require a product with a high tensile strength whereas a building site in a city surrounded by high building will require a product with a lower tensile strength.
